Marine habitat and the
carbon cycle
Our oceans serve as the earth’s largest active carbon sink. The health of our marine habitats is essential to maintain earth’s carbon cycle, helping reduce the pace of global warming.
WhaleFin is
taking action
Earth’s marine ecosystems play a central role in stabilizing atmospheric CO2 and limiting the impact of global warming. WhaleFin supports the health of our marine ecosystems by contributing to organizations including WDC, Moss Earth, and more.
How Do Marine Mammals Impact the Marine Carbon Cycle?
Marine biologists have recently discovered that whales—especially the great whales—play a significant role in capturing carbon from the atmosphere.
Simply by existing, whales can promote the growth of phytoplankton. A 1% increase in phytoplankton biomass is equivalent to planting about 2 billion trees.
A single whale can nourish thousands of other marine lives simply by swimming, breathing, and excreting, even after death. This, in turn, balances the atmosphere and maintains the balance of the carbon cycle.
Ocean conservation activities are coming soon, stay tuned!
How Does WhaleFin Support Marine Conservation?
WhaleFin is establishing a global network of conservation partners on all five continents.
Our conservation partners are making a positive impact on marine habitats across our planet. We are hopeful that, in our small way, we can be part of the solution to our planet’s most pressing ecological problems.
In addition to directly supporting our conservation partners, we work with select partners in both the traditional finance and digital asset worlds. These partnerships also contribute a portion of their earnings to conservation efforts.
We See a Better World Ahead
Our planet is our most important customer
Digital investing is our path to prosperity. And our definition of prosperity includes healthy ecosystems, a balanced relationship with the natural world, and societies which are moving towards sustainable economic systems. We are in the early days of digital transformation, and we believe the ethics of the blockchain community will help move our social and financial systems towards greater transparency, decentralization, and alignment.
Finance + technology + culture = society
WhaleFin's long-term goal is to use the principles of decentralization to connect people, align interests, and empower organizations. Many of the world’s problems are the result of opaque, centralized power which creates sub-optimal outcomes.
We are working towards a net-zero carbon footprint
Creating a low-carbon lifestyle is not simple, but it is possible. We’re starting with ourselves first, working towards a full carbon offset of our company’s activities and the activities of our team. Once that’s done, we’re growing our efforts to include our customers. If not WhaleFin, then who?
Our Partners
WDC (Whale and Dolphin Conservation) is the leading charity dedicated to the protection of whales and dolphins. WDC has thirty years' experience funding vital conservation, education, and research projects around the globe. WDC has around 80 staff worldwide working in 6 locations.
The Whales of Guerrero facilitates
community-driven conservation in the
fishing village of Barra de Potosí and
throughout the southwest Pacific State of
Mexico, pioneering a new approach to
coastal protection that cultivates local
leadership through citizen science, peer
learning, and community outreach.
Happywhale’s mission is to increase
global understanding and to care for
marine environments by creating
